Finish carpentry material estimator
Crown Molding Calculator
Estimate crown molding linear footage, stock sticks, waste, and rough material cost from room dimensions. Includes a basic square-corner miter reminder while keeping compound cuts manufacturer- and saw-specific.
Crown cuts depend on spring angle and saw setup
This calculator estimates material and a simple square-corner miter note. Compound miter and bevel settings vary by spring angle, corner angle, saw orientation, cope strategy, and product profile. Test cuts before installing.

Crown molding formula
Room perimeter = 2 × (length + width) × rooms
Net crown = perimeter - opening deductions
Order length = net crown × (1 + waste %)
Sticks = order length ÷ stock stick length
Sample takeoff
A 12 ft by 14 ft room with no deductions, 12 ft sticks, and 15% waste needs about five sticks and 59.8 linear ft of crown.
Crown Molding Calculator FAQ
How does this crown molding calculator work?+
It multiplies measured job dimensions by the coverage, spacing, or package yield you enter, adds waste, then rounds the buy quantity up. For cut settings, use the crown profile spring angle, corner angle, and saw method recommended by the product or installer.
Should I use the default waste value?+
Use the default for a quick planning estimate, then raise it for cuts, odd layouts, breakage, bad access, or product-specific loss.
Is this a bid or code approval?+
No. It is a material planning calculator. Verify product data, local code, structural requirements, electrical requirements, and supplier packaging before ordering or building.
