Adjustable pedestal support count
Deck Pedestal Calculator
Estimate adjustable deck or paver pedestal supports from the deck area and support spacing. Use it for pedestal calculator searches, rooftop deck planning, raised pavers, and supplier order counts.
Pedestal decks need product and load checks
This is a support count estimate only. Pedestal system rating, paver or tile size, deck boards, edge restraint, wind uplift, roof membrane protection, drainage, slope, and local code must be checked before installation.

Deck pedestal formula
Grid columns = ceiling(deck length ÷ support spacing) + 1
Grid rows = ceiling(deck width ÷ support spacing) + 1
Base pedestals = grid columns × grid rows
Pedestals to buy = base pedestals × (1 + waste %)
Sample takeoff
A 16 ft by 12 ft raised deck with pedestals spaced about 2 ft apart lays out a 9 by 7 grid, or 63 supports. With 10% waste, order about 70 pedestals.
Deck Pedestal Calculator FAQ
How do I calculate deck pedestals?+
Divide length and width by your target support spacing, round each up, add one support line at each edge, then multiply rows by columns.
Can I use this for rooftop pavers?+
Yes for a first support count, but pedestal height, slope correction, wind uplift, membrane protection, and product load ratings must be checked.
Does this choose pedestal spacing?+
No. Enter the spacing required by your paver, tile, joist, or pedestal manufacturer.
