House wrap formula

Net wall area = exterior wall area - openings

Order area = net wall area × (1 + overlap/waste %)

Wrap rolls = order area ÷ roll coverage

Tape rolls = rounded rolls × tape allowance ÷ tape roll length

Sample takeoff

A house with 1,600 ft² of exterior wall, 180 ft² of openings, 15% overlap waste, and 900 ft² rolls needs about two rolls and one tape roll.

House Wrap Calculator FAQ

How do I calculate house wrap rolls?+

Subtract openings from exterior wall area, add overlap and waste, then divide by the coverage per roll.

Does this include window flashing tape?+

It includes a simple seam-tape allowance only. Window and door flashing tape should be calculated from the actual opening details and product instructions.

Should openings be deducted?+

Large windows and doors can be deducted for a closer estimate, but many crews keep waste higher because wrap is cut around openings and laps.
