Landscape fabric roll estimator
Landscape Fabric Calculator
Estimate landscape fabric rolls, overlap allowance, staples, and rough material cost from bed area, perimeter, roll coverage, and staple spacing. Use it before mulch, decorative rock, pavers, or French drain fabric orders.
Fabric layout depends on overlap and planting cuts
This calculator estimates rolls and staples only. Soil prep, fabric weight, drainage, planting holes, seams, slopes, edging, and product instructions can change the final material list.

Landscape fabric formula
Order fabric area = bed area × (1 + overlap % + waste %)
Fabric rolls = order area ÷ roll coverage
Edge staples = perimeter ÷ staple spacing
Field staples = bed area ÷ field staple area
Sample takeoff
A 500 ft² bed with 10% overlap, 5% waste, 300 ft² rolls, 120 ft perimeter, 4 ft edge spacing, and 100 ft² field staple allowance needs about two rolls and 35 staples.
Landscape Fabric Calculator FAQ
How do I calculate landscape fabric rolls?+
Multiply bed area by overlap and waste allowances, then divide by the roll coverage on the product label.
How many staples do I need for landscape fabric?+
Estimate edge staples from perimeter and spacing, then add field staples for seams, slopes, and open areas.
Should I use fabric under mulch or rock?+
It depends on soil, planting, drainage, and maintenance goals. This page estimates material only after you decide fabric belongs in the system.
