Sand volume formula

Sand yd³ = area ft² × depth inches ÷ 324

Order volume = sand volume × (1 + waste %)

Tons = order yd³ × density tons per yd³

Bags = order ft³ ÷ bag yield

Sample takeoff

A 200 ft² paver bed at 2 in deep with 10% waste needs about 1.36 yd³ of sand, about 1.8 tons at 1.35 tons per yd³, or about 74 bags if each bag yields 0.5 ft³.An 18.6 m² paver bed at 50 mm deep with 10% waste needs about 1.02 m³ of sand, about 1.6 tonnes at 1.6 t/m³, or about 74 bags if each bag yields 0.014 m³.
