Sand material estimator
Sand Calculator
Estimate sand volume, tons, and bag counts from area, depth, density, bag yield, waste, and material cost. Use it for paver bedding sand, masonry sand, leveling sand, and small sitework takeoffs before ordering from a supplier.
Sand density and moisture change real tonnage
This calculator estimates order quantity only. Wet sand, compaction, product gradation, screed depth, site loss, supplier minimums, and local material labels can change the final order.

Sand volume formula
Sand yd³ = area ft² × depth inches ÷ 324
Order volume = sand volume × (1 + waste %)
Tons = order yd³ × density tons per yd³
Bags = order ft³ ÷ bag yield
Sample takeoff
A 200 ft² paver bed at 2 in deep with 10% waste needs about 1.36 yd³ of sand, about 1.8 tons at 1.35 tons per yd³, or about 74 bags if each bag yields 0.5 ft³.
Sand Calculator FAQ
How do I calculate sand quantity?+
Multiply the area by sand depth, convert to cubic yards or cubic meters, add waste, then multiply by density for tons or divide by bag yield for bag counts.
Can I use this for paver sand?+
Yes. Enter the screeded bedding depth and use the paver patio calculator for the paver count and base gravel.
Why do sand tons vary?+
Moisture, gradation, compaction, and supplier density can change the tonnage. Use the density from the material yard when you have it.
