Paver edge restraint estimator
Paver Edging Calculator
Estimate paver edging sections, spikes, order length, connectors, waste, and rough material cost from patio dimensions and curved-edge allowance. Use it after the paver, base gravel, and bedding sand takeoff.
Edge restraint depends on the paver system
Edging type, base prep, curves, vehicular loads, bedding depth, restraint fastening, soil, drainage, and manufacturer instructions can change the final order. This calculator only estimates common edge materials.

Paver edging formula
Measured edge = 2 × (length + width) + curved or open-edge allowance
Order length = measured edge × (1 + waste %)
Edging sections = order length ÷ section length
Spikes = order length ÷ spike spacing
Sample takeoff
A 16 ft by 12 ft patio with 8 ft of curved edge, 6 ft edging sections, 2 ft spike spacing, and 10% waste needs about 12 edging sections and 36 spikes.
Paver Edging Calculator FAQ
How do I calculate paver edging?+
Measure the restrained perimeter, add curves or open edges, add waste, then divide by the edging section length.
How many spikes do I need for paver edging?+
Divide the order length by the spike spacing on the product instructions. Curves, corners, and driveways often need closer spacing.
Does edging replace base prep?+
No. Edge restraint works with compacted base, bedding sand, drainage, and manufacturer installation rules.
