Paver joint sand bag estimator
Polymeric Sand Calculator
Estimate polymeric sand or paver joint sand bags from paved area, paver face size, joint width, joint depth, bag yield, waste, and bag cost. It is built for the final hardscape supplier run after paver layout and base prep are known.
Joint sand coverage is product specific
Paver shape, chamfers, actual joint width, joint depth, bedding movement, moisture, compaction, cleanup loss, and manufacturer coverage charts can change the bag count. Use this as a planning estimate before checking the product label.

Polymeric sand formula
Paver count = paved area ÷ paver face area
Approx joint length = paver count × (paver length + paver width)
Joint volume = joint length × joint width × joint depth
Bags = joint volume × (1 + waste %) ÷ bag yield
Sample takeoff
A 200 ft² patio with 8×4 in pavers, 1/4 in joints, 1.5 in joint depth, 10% waste, and 0.5 ft³ bag yield needs about six bags of polymeric sand.
Polymeric Sand Calculator FAQ
How do I calculate polymeric sand bags?+
Approximate total joint length from paver size and area, multiply by joint width and depth, add waste, then divide by the bag yield.
Why can my product label give a different bag count?+
Joint shape, paver chamfers, compaction, sweep-in loss, and exact product density change coverage. Use the manufacturer chart for the final order.
Can I use this for regular joint sand?+
Yes for a planning count if you enter the correct yield, but installation and watering rules are different for polymeric products.
