Door and window trim estimator
Door Casing Calculator
Estimate door casing and window casing sticks from opening counts, average casing perimeter, stock length, waste, optional corner blocks, and material cost. It fills the finish-carpentry gap beside baseboard and crown molding.
Trim details change real stick count
This calculator estimates straight casing stock only. Reveal size, stool and apron, rosettes, miter waste, stain-grade matching, casing profile, jamb extensions, and out-of-square openings can change the final material list.

Door casing formula
Measured casing = doors x average door casing perimeter + windows x average window casing perimeter
Order length = measured casing x (1 + waste %)
Casing sticks = order length / stock stick length
Corner blocks = (doors + windows) x 4 when using block corners
Sample takeoff
Six doors at 17 ft casing perimeter and four windows at 14 ft perimeter need about 177 linear ft with 12% waste, so buy about 13 sticks at 14 ft stock. Corner blocks would total 40 pieces.
Door Casing Calculator FAQ
How do I calculate door casing sticks?+
Multiply each door or window by its casing perimeter, add waste for miters and matching, then divide by stock casing length.
Should I count windows too?+
Yes if the same casing stock is used. Enter a separate average window casing perimeter so the trim list stays realistic.
Does this include stool, apron, or jamb extensions?+
No. Add those pieces separately if the trim detail needs them.
