Siding accessory material estimator
Siding Trim Calculator
Estimate siding trim pieces such as J-channel, starter strip, and outside corner posts from wall perimeter, opening perimeter, corner height, stock lengths, waste, and material cost. Use it after the siding square takeoff.
Siding accessories are system specific
This calculator estimates accessory counts only. Profile type, starter sequence, window and door flashing, corner details, panel exposure, fasteners, trim brand, and local installation rules can change the final list.

Siding trim formula
Trim length = wall perimeter + openings x average opening trim perimeter
Trim sticks = trim length x (1 + waste %) / stock trim length
Corner length = outside corners x corner height x (1 + waste %)
Corner posts = corner length / corner post stock length
Sample takeoff
A 160 ft perimeter house with twelve openings at 16 ft trim perimeter, eight outside corners at 9 ft, 12 ft trim sticks, 10 ft corner posts, and 10% waste needs about 33 trim sticks and 8 corner posts.
Siding Trim Calculator FAQ
How do I estimate siding J-channel and starter strip?+
Add the starter or trim run plus the perimeter around openings, add waste, then divide by the stock trim length.
How many outside corner posts do I need?+
Multiply outside corner count by corner height, add waste, then divide by the corner post stock length.
Does this include flashing?+
No. Flashing, drip caps, window tape, kick-out flashing, and product-specific details must be counted from the siding system.
