Board and batten formula

Spacing length = batten spacing ÷ 12

Batten count = ceiling(wall length ÷ spacing length) + 1

Batten lineal = batten count × wall height

Sticks to buy = batten lineal × (1 + waste %) ÷ stock length

Panel area = wall length × wall height - openings

Sample takeoff

A 16 ft wide by 8 ft high accent wall with 16 in batten spacing, 8 ft stock, and 10% waste needs 13 battens and 15 sticks.
