Floor trim stick estimator
Quarter Round Calculator
Estimate quarter round or shoe molding sticks from room perimeter, opening deductions, room count, stock length, waste, and cost. Useful after flooring, baseboard, or cabinet toe-kick measurements are known.
Trim count is an order estimate
Inside corners, outside corners, scarf joints, stain-grade matching, returns, stairs, cabinets, and damaged cuts can change the final stick count.

Quarter round formula
Perimeter = 2 × (room length + room width) × rooms
Measured trim = perimeter - opening deductions
Order length = measured trim × (1 + waste %)
Sticks to buy = order length ÷ stock length
Sample takeoff
One 12 × 14 ft room with 6 ft of doorway deductions needs about 51.5 linear ft after 12% waste. With 12 ft sticks, buy 5 sticks.
Quarter Round Calculator FAQ
How do I calculate quarter round sticks?+
Use the room perimeter, subtract doorways or openings with no molding, add waste for miters and returns, then divide by stock stick length.
Is shoe molding counted the same way?+
Yes. Quarter round and shoe molding both use linear-foot or linear-meter takeoffs. Product profile and finish may change cost, not the length math.
Should I subtract cabinets?+
Subtract any runs where you will not install molding, such as built-ins, cabinet toe kicks, floor vents, or open thresholds.
