Flooring material and labor estimator
Flooring Cost Calculator
Estimate rough flooring cost from floor area, box coverage, waste, box price, underlayment allowance, trim allowance, labor rate, and markup. Use it for laminate, vinyl plank, engineered wood, or similar boxed flooring when the scope is still early.
Flooring cost depends on prep and product
Subfloor prep, leveling, moisture barriers, stairs, transitions, pattern, removal, disposal, adhesives, trim, taxes, and local labor can change the final price. Use this as an early planning number.

Flooring cost formula
Order area = floor area × (1 + waste %)
Boxes = order area ÷ box coverage, rounded up
Material = boxes × box cost + floor area × underlayment rate + trim allowance
Total = (material + floor area × labor rate) × (1 + markup %)
Sample takeoff
A 500 ft² flooring job with 10% waste, 23.5 ft² boxes at US$58, US$0.35/ft² underlayment, US$250 trim allowance, US$2.25/ft² labor, and 10% markup is about US$3,236.
Flooring Cost Calculator FAQ
How do I estimate flooring cost?+
Start with floor area, add waste, round flooring boxes up, then add underlayment, trim allowances, labor, and markup.
Can I use this for tile?+
Use the tile cost calculator for tile, because thinset, grout, spacers, waterproofing, and labor rates are usually different.
Does this include subfloor repair?+
No. Add subfloor repair, leveling, removal, disposal, or moisture mitigation as separate allowances if the job needs them.
