Roofing material and labor estimator
Roofing Cost Calculator
Estimate rough asphalt-shingle roofing cost from measured roof area, waste, bundles per square, bundle cost, underlayment allowance, nails, labor rate, and markup. Use it for early planning before supplier quotes and a roof walk.
Roofing cost needs roof-specific checks
Pitch, height, tear-off, decking repair, valleys, hips, flashing, ventilation, underlayment code, disposal, access, taxes, and local labor can change the final price. This is not a roofing bid.

Roofing cost formula
Order area = roof area × (1 + waste %)
Roof squares = order area ÷ 100
Bundles = roof squares × bundles per square, rounded up
Nail boxes = roof squares × nails per square ÷ nails per box, rounded up
Total = (materials + roof area × labor rate) × (1 + markup %)
Sample takeoff
A 2,000 ft² shingle roof with 10% waste, three bundles per square, US$42 bundles, US$0.18/ft² underlayment allowance, nails, US$1.75/ft² labor, and 10% markup is about US$7,377.
Roofing Cost Calculator FAQ
How do I estimate roofing cost?+
Measure roof area, add waste, convert to roof squares, price shingle bundles, add underlayment, nails, labor, and markup.
Does this include tear-off?+
No. Add tear-off, disposal, sheathing repair, flashing, vents, drip edge, permits, and difficult access as separate allowances.
Can I use this for metal roofing?+
Use it only as a rough planning model. Metal roofing normally needs panel length, trim, clips, screws, and product-specific pricing.
